Smart Manufacturing or Industry 4.0 leverages the power of data/information to fully-integrate, respond in real time to meet changing demands and conditions in the factory, in the supply network, and in customer needs. Simply put Smart Manufacturing is about leveraging the right information at the right time in the right form with the right technology for the right people to enable smart decisions.
Today we see and read news about automation, robotics, machine learning, augmented reality, virtual reality and AI. It is all about technology and the benefits that the manufacturing community and businesses can derive. But is it all about technology? Technology is absolutely a vital component but its applicability and usability is very human-centric. Human beings will be front and center in the design, deployment and execution of smart manufacturing solutions.
The goal of this presentation is to emphasize on the “how” highlighting the human-centric frame and the importance of software in data contextualization and decision making. Over 70 percent of the value creation and variability comes from the human workforce. Today a plant can have continuous, system-wide analytics from its human workforce thanks to the integration of information and operations technologies. The human-centric smart manufacturing collaboration enhances human effectiveness, benefits everybody from C-level to Sea-level and forms the foundation for an enterprise wide digital transformation just like ERP systems did 20 years back.
